THINGS THAT MAKE ME SAY, "YEEHAW!"

February 27, 2012:
Behold! Princess Viola Louise Hassenfeffer will be zip, zup, zooming into a kingdom near year October 2012.

February 23, 2012:
Hooray! MR. DUCK MEANS BUSINESS is a finalist for the 2012 Oklahoma Book Award.

February 9, 2012:
*blushes* Today I received a wonderful testimonial:

"Heritage Hall had an exceptional opportunity when Tammi Sauer came to speak with our children about her books and good writing habits. In all my years of teaching (that would be 37) I have never had an author connect so perfectly with children. She used her personal experiences with writing and then gave the kids ten top tips to being a great writer. Tips that they can understand and actually put to positive use. My kids continue to talk about those tips when we are writing. I love that they remember them and find them so helpful. Tammi's hilarious sense of humor and engaging ways to get kids involved in the presentation kept the pace moving. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and felt it was time well spent.I've heard from teachers in other grade levels about what a fine job she did in making her presentation age appropriate and meaningful. We are lucky to have had Mrs. Sauer share her craft in such a pleasurable way. Thank you Tammi!"
                                                    --Jan Bradford, 4th grade teacher

February 8, 2012:
Kirkus gave BAWK AND ROLL a bawtastic review:
"Can you say superstars? Sauer dispenses her many puns with an appealingly deft touch, offering a genuine lesson on friendship. Santat's illustrations are similarly droll, featuring several clever and surprising page designs, making the most of the opportunity offered by the contrast between stage and audience. This flock rocks."

February 7, 2012:
Mr. Duck was spotted at the Scholastic Book Fair. Yay!

January 23, 2012:
Hooray for healthy minds! Hooray for healthy bodies! MOSTLY MONSTERLY is a 2012 Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories selection!

January 15, 2012:
Kirkus gave ME WANT PET! a great review:
"Sauer's bare-bones, Stone Age lingo ("Me sad," says Cave Boy. "Want pet") meshes nicely with Shea's heavily outlined, primitive caricatures. His uncluttered, digital compositions sport bold color contrasts and pleasing patterns, offering a comprehensible but dynamic interpretation of this satisfying, circular tale. Readers may wish for a return to simpler times, if getting your heart's desire could be guaranteed to come in triplicate. This account of the age-old bond between animals and children is ideally paced for read-aloud pleasure." OOGA!

January 10, 2012:

Booklist likes MR. DUCK MEANS BUSINESS! Evidence? "Exuberant acrylic illustrations highlight the barnyard animals’ fun and Mr. Duck’s dilemma as he learns the need for friendship and tolerance. Pair this with Doreen Cronin’s GIGGLE, GIGGLE, QUACK (2002) for another look at a take-charge duck."

Cue the stampede! MR. DUCK MEANS BUSINESS is now available.

January 1, 2011:
Yahooh! School Library Journal likes MR. DUCK MEANS BUSINESS! Evidence? "Sauer's clever use of language—'Mr. Duck grumbled. He mumbled. He flip-flop-fumbled'—will engage children and help soften the getting-along message in a humorous and likable way. Mack picks up on this note, filling the pages with color and action."

December 1, 2010:
Phew! Kirkus Reviews likes MR. DUCK MEANS BUSINESS! Evidence? "Sauer's dour and disciplined duck and his rhyming hissy fits will most definitely entertain. Mack's furry and feathered wide-eyed animals rendered in ebullient acrylic are a great match for this fine farmyard fable."

December 1, 2010:
There is a brief MOSTLY MONSTERLY video at scholastic.com. Actors(!!) were selected for the parts of the mother and the daughter. I played a mini role as well. Ooh.

Read Across Oklahoma

Giddy-up and get to the Oklahoma City Zoo on Tuesday, April 7 for Read Across Oklahoma 2009: Reading Round-Up.
Approximately 1,500 preschoolers will travel to the Zoo for Read Across Oklahoma as part of the Ready to Learn program, an initiative of the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority (OETA). With Target’s sponsorship, these little cowboys and cowgirls will be provided an extraordinary day of learning. While at the Zoo, they will enjoy animal information stations, take a class picture with popular PBS characters and Bullseye, the Target dog, eat lunch and attend a live story telling production of Cowboy Camp by Edmond Author Tammi Sauer. With assistance from Capitol Hill High School’s drama students, Kelley Riha from Metropolitan Library System, and the author herself, Cowboy Camp will come to life for these students through this fun and interactive story time.
